Traffic & Engagement | Getting Started Guide

The Traffic and Engagement page under Website Analysis provides a quick look into the traffic of any website (or a number of websites), including the number of visits, engagement, rankings, and more.

Why use Traffic & Engagement?

  • Gain an overview of a brand’s digital market share

  • Reveal a brand’s user acquisition strategies

  • Determine how a brand compares to its competitors

  • Understand how well a brand is performing according to its visitor reach and engagement

  • Discover trends and seasonality

  • Gain insights into audience behavior over time and across granular time frames (daily, weekly, monthly)

How to Use

Step 1 - Build your analysis

  1. Navigate to Website Analysis.

  2. Type the domain you would like to analyze into the Search Bar.

  3. Click the Compare button to add up to 4 competitor sites in the Add/Remove Competitors Box.

  4. Click Audience > Traffic and Engagement.

  5. Enter your chosen time frame, country filter, and device view at the top of the page

Step 2 - Benchmark the competition

  1. Analyze Total Visits to benchmark the traffic volume for each brand and understand their market share and potential market reach.

  2. Click on % or # to view traffic in percentage share of all visits or absolute numbers.

  3. Compare each site’s traffic per device with Traffic Share to optimize for user acquisition

  4. Analyze the SimilarWeb Rankings to see how each brand stacks up against one another in terms of reach and engagement on a global, local, or category level

Step 3 - Uncover the quality and relevancy of visitors

  1. Compare Monthly Visits to reveal a brand’s monthly market potential

  2. Gain insight into how many people a brand reaches with Unique Visitors.

  3. Understand the impact of a brand, campaign, or specific piece of content by comparing the number of Visits per Unique Visitors (the number of times each visitor visited the analyzed website).

  4. Analyze Engagement metrics of Avg. Visit Duration, Pages/Visits, and Bounce Rate to benchmark the quality and relevancy of visitors of each brand

Step 4 - Reveal changes in reach and engagement over time

  1. Evaluate whether a brand is growing by analyzing traffic (Monthly Visits and Monthly Unique Visitors) over time

  2. Analyze peaks and drops in traffic and engagement (Average Visit Duration, Pages/Visit, and Bounce Rate) over time to spot trends and seasonality

  3. Apply different levels of granularity (daily, weekly, monthly) to easily pinpoint trends and user behavior over time

Note: Toggle Month to Date to gain valuable insights. Understand trends to date for traffic and engagement metrics per channel to adjust and optimize your acquisition strategies.
