How to access Top Apps
In the Similarweb platform, navigate to App Intelligence > Market Analysis > Top Apps in the left navigation menu
How to Use Top Apps?
Configure your analysis parameters using the controls at the top of the report:
- Store Selector: Switch between Google Play and Apple App Store data.
- Category Filter: Focus on a specific category (e.g., Social, Entertainment, Games) or analyze All Categories.
- Apps Released After Filter: Filter out legacy giants to isolate newly launched apps released after a specific month.
- Timeframe & Country: Adjust the historical range (e.g., 12 Months) and regional view (e.g., Worldwide or individual countries).
Data Controls & Visualizations
Toggle between different metrics, adjust views and customize your analysis:
- Metric Tabs: Switch between Downloads, Avg. MAU, and Revenue.

Total vs. Over Time:
- Total: Displays aggregate volume as a bar chart.
- Over Time: Displays monthly trend lines.

Unit View (# vs. %):
- # (Volume): Shows exact numerical totals over time.

Metrics & Data Table
The data table lists granular metrics for top apps in your selected scope. Click the Columns dropdown button in the upper-right corner of the table to customize your view.
You can click and reorder the following columns:
- App & Publisher: Standard identifier fields.
- Category: App Store category classification.
- Release Date & Last App Update: App release timeline and update freshness.
- Ratings & Price: Store rating averages and pricing.
- Store Downloads & Downloads Change (% Δ): Absolute acquisition volume and growth percentage.
- MAU & MAU Change (% Δ): Active usage volume and growth percentage.
- Revenue & Revenue Change (% Δ): Estimated store earnings and growth percentage.
💡 Pro Tip: Sort any metric column by % change while keeping the Apps Released After filter active to surface high-velocity disruptors before they reach top total volume ranks.
