Traffic share is a calculation of traffic per keyword divided by the total search traffic to a website.

We estimate the amount of traffic per keyword-based data we receive from our contributory network, using a machine learning algorithm based on raw data about real user behavior.

We present traffic estimations for the top 10,000 keywords per website. For most websites this is more than sufficient.

However, if a site has over 10,000 keywords that it receives traffic from, we will only present traffic estimations for the top 10,000. Some of the keywords that send minimal traffic to the site will not receive traffic estimations, and therefore will not be included when adding the traffic share of all keywords together. For this reason, the sum of traffic share for keywords sending traffic to a website may not reach 100%.

The traffic share metric is not derived from the total search volume. Traffic share represents the percentage of traffic generated by an analyzed keyword out of traffic sent by all keywords to the website.

Search Volume is derived from the number of searches conducted for a specific keyword during the analyzed time period.

Search traffic per domain is supplemented with keywords indexed from the Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP). Even if there is no traffic from a particular keyword to a domain in our contributory network, if the site appears in Google results, this keyword will be presented in the keywords module with a traffic share of 0%.

The combination of data sources provides you with more keywords to discover per domain, and therefore, more ideas to optimize your search strategy.

The data shown in our keywords module comes from a variety of different sources.

Currently, we are using different data sources to populate our URL insights from our Traffic per keyword insights.

As a result, we are not always able to provide all metrics for every keyword, regardless of the amount of traffic generated by that keyword.

Position data and CPC are metrics provided to supplement the keyword traffic share data.

Due to the large number of keywords we track, we cannot pull the position data and CPC data - which comes from public data sources - for 100% of the keywords for which we have traffic share data. Thus, we have a system that prioritizes a list of keywords to collect position and CPC for.

If you spot a keyword that is missing position data or CPC data and you'd like us to prioritize this keyword for future months, feel free to add this keyword to a Keyword List, which will automatically add the keyword to our priority list for the coming months!

Search traffic can be higher than search volume due to the fact that an individual can do a single search and then click multiple results.

Additionally, search traffic data is measured across multiple search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.). However, search volume is specific to Google.

Google Shopping is classified as 100% Paid Search, while the other search types (News, Maps, Videos, Images) are 100% Organic.

Keyword volume data is updated when monthly data is updated across the platform - by the 10th of the following month.

SERP data is collected frequently. The URL displayed is the most recent landing page seen in our data collection with the highest position, not necessarily the most clicked on.

For each website in our database, the top 10,000 keyword results per month are collected, including both organic and paid results. This data is collected separately for each individual country, and for worldwide.

In some cases when analyzing a site, you’ll see keywords for a specific country that we don't show when analyzing worldwide data. When looking at worldwide results, it's a much larger data pool than when looking at individual countries. Therefore, keywords that have a higher traffic share in the context of an individual country may not have as high of a traffic share when compared to worldwide results, and therefore, may not make the top 10,000 keyword results worldwide.
