Ever since ChatGPT, it seems like AI has become as much a part of our lives as the internet and smartphones. There's a reason for it: with the ability to take questions or statements and analyze them to formulate an intelligent, natural-sounding response, us humans can get comprehensive and catered answers to things faster than ever.

So, what are people asking AI chatbots, anyway? Many industries can benefit from understanding this, but one in particular is the Health and Medicine industry. Are people asking ChatGPT, Gemini, etc. about their health? Are they approaching these AI chatbots about serious issues? Are people asking them intimate medical questions before reaching out to a professional? Are people going to AI more than searching on Google?

There are lots of questions surrounding the topic. Similarweb’s got answers.

Reports to Run

Incoming Traffic

Understanding if there is any link to the AI chatbot sites to the sites in question is a great first step in figuring out how often people are asking them medical questions. Seeing a lot of referral traffic going to sites like that infers that such questions are being asked. When the chatbots source sites such as Healthline, a user can click on it to see where the information came from. In this case, it looks like both Perplexity.ai and ChatGPT have driven millions of visits to all three of the sites in this example. Note that Perplexity drives more traffic to Healthline, while ChatGPT drives more traffic to MayoClinic. Check out incoming traffic here.

Rank Tracker

Then, let’s set up a Rank Tracker. This is a fantastic tool that allows you to monitor your organic ranking position on a daily basis. Read more about the feature and how to set one up in detail here. For this use case, you’ll want to…

  1. Select your new domain and the old domain.
  2. Input the keywords
    1. PRO Tip: Don’t know all the keywords you want to analyze? Hop over to the Keyword Generator to compile a list which you can then put into a Rank Tracker campaign.
  3. Once you’re on the Overview page, click on over to the SERP Features page. Through this, we are tracking the relevant keywords, and then we can filter by "AI Overview" to see if any of the target keywords are being answered by AI on Google. This sheds light onto what the "share" of answers that AI responses are taking.

Data Feeds

Data Feeds are a custom-tailored solution. As such reports of many types can be created to solve for a multitude of issues. Another way that Similarweb can help you understand the impact that AI is having is via our Chatbot Data Feed. This can help you understand what specific questions are being asked when it comes to their health and medicine, and if the chatbots are delivering accurate information.

We can also see what pages they are linking to. Through that, Healthline could see if Mayo Clinic is receiving more qualified traffic to its content, or vice versa. This can allow you to understand what type of content these chatbots are spitting out, which can help with your own landing page and content optimization. Feel free to ask your Account Manager about ways in which Data Feeds could help your research.

All of the above can be applied to other industries, as well.
