How to use SERP Players

To uncover which websites are gaining organic or paid search traffic from a selected keyword or keyword list, follow these steps: 

  1. From the left-hand navigation bar, go to Acquisition Research > Search > Search 3.0 > Keyword Analysis

  2. Select a keyword by typing it into the search bar or select a keyword list that you’ve built or uploaded to start your analysis.

  3. Using the filters in the upper right, change the time frame so you can view a specific month or the last 28 days to get the most recent perspective on keyword performance.

  4. Select a specific country filter as well as the device type you which to analyze: Desktop, Mobile or All Traffic. The All Traffic view provides the combined keyword coverage across both desktop and mobile, giving you a holistic understanding of the keyword landscape for the selected website(s).

What Insights Can I Access?

Last 28 Days / Monthly Volume

The monthly average of Google searches for a keyword (over the last 12 months). This also includes an at-a-glance zero-click breakdown and volume trend as well as mobile vs desktop breakdown.

Total/Desktop/Mobile Organic or Paid Clicks

The total number of organic or paid clicks for the analyzed keyword in the selected time period, signaling where a user has clicked on a search result or paid search ad to get to a specific organic or paid landing page. In the Total Organic Clicks view this also includes a desktop vs mobile traffic breakdown so you can see which device is more popular for these types of keyword searches.

Total/Organic/Paid Clicks over Time 

In this chart, you’ll have the ability to see the top domains receiving organic or paid clicks, or a total of both, from the analyzed keyword or keyword list. You’ll have the option of selecting up to 10 domains that interest you most out of a list of 100.

You can see the click trend data in 3 different ways: Trend, Stacked Trend, or Share. This allows you to visualize the spread of clicks for that keyword amongst the selected sites in multiple ways. You can choose which ever you prefer for reporting and analysis purposes.

  • Trend view: Highlights the major movements in clicks over time. It shows how traffic to these websites change allowing you to easily track their ups and downs over the period we're looking at. It gives you a clear picture of each site's performance over time.

  • Stacked Trend view: Shows the total number of clicks so you can see the individual trends of different websites, while also seeing an aggregate view of how they perform over time.  It's a neat way to visualize both individual and collective performance.

  • Share view: The stacked area chart displays the accumulated click share of the selected domains over a specific period. Each color represents a website, and the height of the color at any point shows how much of the total clicks count comes from that site. It helps you see who's getting the most attention over a period.

  • Date range granularity: Select timeframes of Last 28 days, last 3 months and last 6 months, to see the trend for the keywords over the longer term as well as get daily, weekly and monthly granularity for the click spread too.

  • Domain Selector: Choose the domains that you want to see the click spread for, so you know who is gaining the most and least clicks for the analyzed keyword, as well as who might be trending.

Using the Total/Organic/Paid Traffic Breakdown

The table allows you to get a closer look at the domains receiving total, organic or paid clicks from the chosen keyword or keyword list.

Key metrics and insights:

Domain: The name of the domains that receive traffic from a given keyword or list
Domain Search Clicks: The absolute number of clicks the domain has received from the keyword/keyword list and the click share amongst the other domains found in the selected timeframe
Desktop/Mobile:  The split between desktop and mobile clicks
Change: The period-over-period change in clicks by percentage (based on the selected time period. If viewing by last 28 days, it will show the change from the previous 28 days. 

  Tip: Sorting by Change is a great way to discover trending keywords, fast-growing companies, and new partners or prospects.

Ranked SERP Features: All the SERP features that the website ranks for on the analyzed keywords
Avg. Position: The URL's average position on Google's Search Engine Results Page over the time period selected
Highest Ranking URL: The website page with the highest organic position that ranks for the analyzed keyword
