A branded keyword is a keyword or search term that includes a brand or product name or a variation of it.

For example, If a user types “Similarweb Analytics Tool” in the search field, this counts as a branded keyword. The searcher isn’t interested in any random analytics tool but intends to find a defined brand. Brand searches are among the most important keywords in your marketing strategy.

Calculation

Domain Detection

If the keyword is included in the domain name, this will be counted as a branded keyword.

Alternative spelling detection

Our algorithm checks for spelling mistakes and other languages, and determines if these keywords send significant traffic to the main domain of a website.

For example, "wallmart" sends significant traffic to walmart.com. Therefore, this misspelling is considered a branded keyword to walmart.com.

Brand-related terms

We also detect terms related to the brand and identify if they send significant traffic to the main pages of a site.

For example, we pick up "itunes" and "iphone" because they are brand-related terms that send significant traffic to apple.com.
