Connect your Google Play Store apps to Similarweb

Here’s a step-by-step guide to connecting your Google Play app performance data with Similarweb. It uses advanced encryption and gathers your apps data needed to monitor downloads, revenue, in-app purchases, keywords and more.

Why connect your Google Play account?

1. Centralized analytics: If you connect Apple App Store, Google Play Console and Google Analytics, you have a centralized place for all of your first-party data. 
2. Competitive benchmarking: Compare your verified ‘real’ data against the estimated data of your competitors to see exactly where you lead or to help spot gaps and opportunities

How to connect

Before you begin, ensure you are logged into the Google account that has Admin or Report access to your Google Play Console.

Step 1: Authorization

1. Within Similarweb, 
2. Go to the Similarweb platform, navigate  to App Intelligence
3. On the homepage, create a new Android ‘Tracker’
4. Once the tracker has been created, click the button to ‘Connect to Google Play Store’

Please note: It’s better if you select your app as the ‘main app’ in the tracker.

5. You will be redirected to a secure Google login prompt. Select the account associated with your Google Play Console.
6. When prompted, click ‘Allow’ to grant Similarweb read-only access to your Google Storage. This allows us to securely import your app data.
7. A pop up will appear asking you to provide your Cloud Storage URI [see next step]

Step 2: Locate your Cloud Storage URI

To complete the Google Play Store connection, Similarweb needs to know your specific storage ‘address’ from Google Play Console. This is how we securely import data for your app.

1. Open your Google Play Console in a new tab.
2. Go to Download Reports > Statistics.
3. Find the button labeled "Copy Cloud Storage URI" (it will look something like pubsite_prod_rev_...).
4. Click on the button to copy the string.

Step 3: Complete connection in Similarweb

1. Return to the pop up back in Similarweb App Intelligence (mentioned in step 1)
2. Paste the Cloud Storage URI into the designated field.
3. Click ‘Confirm Connection’.

Once you link your Google Play Console account to Similarweb, we will verify the connection and ensure your account has the necessary permissions to import your data. This process may take up to 72 hours.

How do I disconnect my Google Play account?

To fully stop sharing your data and revoke access, you must manage the connection directly within your Google Account settings.

To disconnect, follow these steps:

1. Log in to the Google account used for the integration.
2. Navigate to your Google Account management page.
3. Go to the Security (or Security & sign-in) section.
4. Scroll to "Your connections to third-party apps & services" (or "Manage third-party access").
5. Find Similarweb in the list and select Delete all connections to revoke access.

What happens once I disconnect?

As soon as you revoke access through your Google settings, Similarweb will no longer be able to pull data from your Google Storage folder.

FAQs

Will this connection change my Google Play Store settings?

No. The authorization you grant is strictly Read-Only. Similarweb cannot modify your app listings, change your pricing or alter any settings within your Google Play Console.

Who in my organization should set up this connection?

The setup must be completed by a user who is currently logged into a Google account with Admin or Report access to your Google Play Console. This ensures the user has the necessary permissions to share the storage reports.

Why do I need to provide a Cloud Storage URI?

The Cloud Storage URI acts as the specific digital ‘address’ for your app's performance reports. By providing it you allow Similarweb to find and sync the correct data folder associated with your account.

When will my first party data appear in Similarweb?

First party data is not yet available but will be in the coming months.

Can I connect multiple App Store accounts?

Yes! To get the most out of your centralized analytics, you can connect your Google Play Console, Apple App Store and Google Analytics. In the next few months, you’ll be able to view a single, unified view of all your first-party data alongside Similarweb’s broad market data.
