Using Similarweb's Affiliate Research tools, we will show you how to find and qualify potential affiliate partners and gauge the fit between your business and an affiliate.

As you look for potential Affiliate Partners, keep in mind that not all affiliate partnerships are created equal. You'll want to ensure that a potential partner has proven success at driving traffic in your industry and that they're on top of their game when it comes to SEO. It also helps to look at which Affiliate Partners your competitors are working with, so you can divert their traffic to you. Stealth mode.

Discover Affiliates Sending Traffic to Your Competitors

Let's start by doing a bit of reconnaissance to find which affiliates your competitors are partnering with and how successful are those affiliates are at referring traffic to competitor sites.

  1. Working in the Marketing Intelligence > Affiliates Research module, navigate to Find Competitor Affiliates.

    Enter your primary website and up to four competitor sites, then select Find Affiliates.

  2. Evaluate Key Metrics and Insights

    On the Competitor Affiliates page, you'll discover data and insights on the websites referring traffic to your competitors and their industry categories, traffic distributions, engagement, and more.

    Metrics that matter: Discover traffic you may be missing out on and identify the sources of that traffic.

    • The Total # of referral visits and the Total competitive traffic share insights are indicators of the amount of traffic available to gain and which competitors are winning with a strong affiliate strategy.

    • The Industry Distribution reflects the industries these affiliate sites belong to. You may be surprised to find unlikely industries on the list. Take note and consider what may be driving traffic in an industry that's outside of your core business industry.

    Metrics the matter: This list of sites provides a clear view of your competitor's affiliate strategy. Analyze which competitors are receiving the most engaged traffic from referral domains? What quality partnerships are you missing out on?

    • Use the list of Top Domains to discover sites delivering the most referral traffic to competitors.

    • Analyze the Competitive Traffic Share for each domain and take note of the Engagement Leaders.

    A deeper dive: Explore an affiliate further by selecting the down arrow next to the domain.

    Metrics that matter: Analyze the trending view of traffic changes and traffic distribution over time across the competitor set. Spot any changes in strategy that have made an impact on the referral traffic share.

    • See the Competitive Traffic Share Over Time. Hover over the graph to see Traffic Visits, % Share, and Traffic Change (MoM).

  3. Next Steps

    As you identify affiliates of interest, select the checkbox next to each domain. Create a Partner List for further analysis and monitoring.

Find Affiliate Partners by Keyword

You may have found leads by evaluating your competitors, but there are plenty of opportunities out there that your competitors haven't engaged with. Now, let's find potential affiliate partners by discovering the top referral sites generating traffic based on the most relevant keywords for your brand.

  1. In the Marketing Intelligence > Affiliates Research module, navigate to Keyword Affiliates.

    Enter a Seed Keyword or choose a Keyword List. Then, set your Geographic region, and click Find Affiliates.

  2. Evaluate Key Metrics and Insights:

    On the Affiliates based on keyword traffic page, you'll find the top referring websites for those keywords (and related terms) and several qualifying metrics to help you analyze if these domains fit your target audience's niche.

    Metrics that matter: Review the list of top referral websites that receive traffic from the keyword and other related keywords.

    • Several qualifying metrics help you evaluate if a domain fits your audience, such as Traffic Share percentage, the Website's Industry, and average Monthly Visits .

    • Use the Top Page column to see the landing page driving the most traffic for the referring website based on your keyword or keyword list.

    Want to narrow it down further? Apply the Website Industries and Website Type filters to customize your analysis. And use the Search Bar to sort for results that include a specific term.

  3. Next Steps:

    Once you've identified affiliates of interest, select the checkbox next to each domain. Click Create a Partner List for further analysis and monitoring.

Find Affiliates Referring Traffic to Your Industry

Generate a list of the top referring domains sending traffic to your industry and market, and discover potential affiliates and partners.

Tip: You can look for affiliates within your primary industry. But what about other industries you saw pop up in your analysis so far? Try out one of those to see how you can expand your referral traffic share and edge out your competitors.

  1. To begin, navigate to Affiliate Research > Industry Affiliates.

    Select the industry, set the Geographic region, and click Find Affiliates.

  2. Evaluate Key Metrics and Insights:

    Get a top-line overview of the referral traffic volume and the leading sites receiving the most incoming traffic in the industry.

    Set the filter to Content Publishing Websites

    Metrics that matter: Set the filter to Content Publishing Websites . Scan the table for potential partnerships. Are you currently working with these industry-leading sites? How are they performing for you vs. your competitors? Do you see any sites from your previous research? How do they compare in their industry?

    • View the Leaders, the websites receiving the most incoming traffic, and the list of Referral Websites driving that traffic.
