How to Build a Dashboard
When you log in, head to the 'My Dashboards' section. If you've already created dashboards, they'll appear here along with their names and last edited dates. However, if it's your first time, you'll land on our new dashboard setup page.
You’ve got two ways to get started: choose from our pre-made templates or start completely from scratch. If you go with a template, just pick the one that fits your use case—like websites or segments—fill in a few details like your domain or country, and your dashboard builds itself in seconds.
Start from Scratch
Sometimes in life, you just gotta handle something yourself, and building dashboards is no different. If you want a dashboard completely tailored to your needs, click 'Start from Blank'. Give your dashboard a name, choose your entity—like a website or app—and select the countries you want to focus on.
From there, click 'Add Widget' and choose from over 40 available metrics. You can filter by category or popularity to find what you need quickly. Add your domain, select a time period and device type, and hit 'Apply'. Now your first widget is live!
And because this is a fully custom environment, you can resize widgets, move them around, and start layering on more insights.
Use a Template
For immediate insights, use a dashboard template. Head to the 'Templates' tab where you’ll find pre-built dashboards for websites, segments, and more. Each template comes with a preview, description, and a list of key metrics included.
Just click ‘Learn More’ to see an example. Then, type in a domain like ‘Similarweb.com,’ choose your countries — up to five — and give your dashboard a name. Hit ‘Create’, and you’re ready to go.
It’s a time-saver and a great way to explore what’s possible.
Editing a Dashboard
Once you have a dashboard, it’s likely that you’ll want to make some changes to it at one point. To do so, click the three-dot icon on any widget to open the edit panel. From here, you can change domains, add competitors, choose different countries or devices, even change the visualization type.
You can easily switch between line charts and bar charts, and you can also click ‘Edit Layout’ to resize widgets and drag them around the screen.
Everything is flexible — so your dashboard tells the story you want.
The Widgets Menu
When building or editing your dashboard, the widgets are your building blocks. There are over 40 to choose from—each one a different view into your traffic, engagement, marketing channels, and more.
Click on Add Widget in the top right corner to explore widgets by category, like mobile apps, search keywords, or websites. Each one shows a description, supported entities, and our recommended visualization.
Let’s say you pick ‘Bounce Rate’ — you’ll see example data and can compare across domains or even segments. Adding one is as easy as a click.
Editing a Widget
As easy as it is to customize your dashboard, it is just as easy to edit an individual widget. Just look to the top right of the widget and click on the three dots, and select edit. From there, make your changes accordingly, and click on Update in the bottom right corner. Voila - you have your updated widget!
